Valley View Community Food Bank a 501 (c )(3) is participating in the largest national day of community service sponsored by USA Weekend Magazine & Points of Light. We graciously ask for your support via media coverage for this community event.
On this day of making a difference in our community, Valley View Community Food Bank will be passing out gently used blankets & jackets to those in need. We will also provide food as we currently do every other Saturday during our community outreaches. We will be providing these much needed items in the vicinity of 11th Avenue & Madison Street starting at 9:30 am.
We anticipate up to 250 people will need our support this day and will have 30 to 40 volunteers helping with this event.
We have distributed fliers and info since September to help us collect blankets & jackets and the event website www.makeadiffenceday.com that hosts the national day of community service.

Valley View Community Food Bank hosts “Kick Off To The Holidays” Event To Ensure Every Family Receives a Holiday Meal
The food bank’s goal is to raise $50,000 and 1 million pounds of food during the next few months to ensure that anyone in our community who needs a meal can get one this holiday season and all year long.
The “Kickoff To The Holidays” event, Nov. 2, 2013, 10am -3pm located at the food bank is meant to create awareness about hunger in Arizona and to help raise much-needed funds for the Valley View Community Food Bank. The food bank is asking the community to help them raise $50,000 and 1 million pounds of food to ensure that anyone in our community who needs a meal can get one this holiday season. “We've already seen the need for food assistance grow in August and September by 40%” explains Jesse Ramirez, President and Founder. “With donations dramatically down, we need the public to help us not only meet the growing demand but to help keep us going past the holidays.” One in six residents in the Valley will rely on the food bank for a holiday meal this year.
The event will host an Open House for supporters to take a tour better understand the food bank and how it serves the community. The food bank also encourages attendees to bring three cans of food for a free raffle ticket and if you bring a turkey, “you'll earn 5 raffle tickets and a chance to win some fun prizes” explained Mr. Ramirez, “There will be live music, shopping, a 50/50 raffle and family activities for everyone to enjoy”. The food bank is hoping for a large attendance due to an increase in clients needing food and a large drop in monetary donations. “The economy has affected the amount of people in need and also affects our donors.,” explained Mr. Ramirez. “Donations are more rare at times of uncertainty with causes a ripple effect on the people we serve.”
CVS Pharmacy, Trader Joes, Western Underground, Prestige Personnel, Ultra Star Cinemas, Generation of Massage, Coca-Cola, Family Dollar and Pure Radiance Salon who have donated gift cards and more, as raffle prizes will sponsor the event. There will be activities for the whole family to enjoy including live music, food and shopping from the following vendors: Rachel's Handcrafted Jewelry, Cake & Bake Supplies, Carlito's Tacos, Calico Kettle Corn, Face Creations by Jennifer, Anchors & Wings Boutique- Vendor, IT WORKS- Vendor, Shades of Royalty-Vendor, Gold Canyon Candles-Vendor and Baked with Love!

Clients and supporters alike really enjoy and find our Farmers Market a lot of help to supplement their groceries. For only a $10 donation, people are invited to buy veggies and fruits, an important part of a nutritional diet, to help fill their plates and pantries.
The food bank has been seeing an increase in clients and decrease in monetary donations. Due to these circumstances the food bank was unable to purchase the veggies and fruits needed to supply the Farmers Market, therefore temporarily closing the Farmers Market until further notice.
This was a difficult decision and we hope with the support of the community that we will be able to reopen this important resource to the public sooner than later. We ask that if you want to help the food bank during this tough time, please consider an online donation. Every little bit helps and we greatly appreciate your support of our mission to end hunger in Arizona. Please share this post to help us continue the fight against hunger in AZ. Thank you for your support!!
